George Marcus, Chairman

George M. Marcus is the Co-Founder and Chairman of Marcus & Millichap Company. Founded in 1971, Marcus & Millichap Company is the parent company of a diversified group of real estate service, investment, and development firms including SummerHill Homes, one of the San Francisco Bay Area’s largest home builders. Also falling under the Marcus & Millichap family of companies are Pacific Urban Residential, SummerHill Apartment Communities, Meridian Property Company, Hanover Financial and Marcus & Millichap Tech Ventures, which invests in real estate technology companies. Mr. Marcus is also the Founder and Chairman of Essex Property Trust (ESS) and Marcus & Millichap, Inc. (MMI), both publicly traded companies. In April of 2014, ESS acquired BRE, making it a $16 billion company, and is now traded on the S&P 500. MMI went public in October of 2013 and is the largest commercial investment real estate brokerage firm in the nation with nearly 1600 brokers in offices nationwide and in Canada.

Mr. Marcus’ professional memberships include the Real Estate Roundtable, Urban Land Institute and the University of California Berkeley Fisher Center for Real Estate and Urban Economics, as well as numerous other professional and community organizations, including International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC), United Religions Initiative (URI), Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) and Fuse Corps. He also sits on the Board of Directors of the UCSF Foundation, is an Emeritus Board Member of the Corporation of Fine Arts Museums (COFAM) where he served on the development committee that built the de Young Museum in San Francisco, he was one of the founders of Greater Bay Bancorp and sat on its Board of Directors until it was acquired by Wells Fargo, and is a Regent Emeritus of the University of California.

Mr. Marcus graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from San Francisco State University in 1965, was honored as Alumnus of the Millennium in 1999 and received his honorary doctorate in 2011. He is also a graduate of the Harvard Business School President’s Management Program and the Georgetown University Leadership Program.

William Millichap, Co-Chairman

William A. Millichap, co-founder of Marcus & Millichap Company, has served as a board member and the managing director of Marcus & Millichap Company since 1985 and was president of Marcus & Millichap Company from 1986 to 2000. Additionally, Mr. Millichap has served as Marcus & Millichap’s (MMI) co-chairman since 2000 and also acts in an advisory capacity to Marcus & Millichap (MMI). Mr. Millichap served as MMI’s president from 1986 to 2000 and was also the managing partner of Marcus & Millichap Venture Partners (now known as MMC Tech Ventures). Mr. Millichap also served on the Board of Directors of Essex Property Trust from 1994 to 2009, and LoopNet, Inc. from 1999 to 2008. In addition, Mr. Millichap was one of the founders of San Jose National Bank and The Mid Peninsula Bank of Commerce, where he served on the Board of Directors. Mr. Millichap also served on the Board of Directors of the National Multi Housing Council and is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers, the Urban Land Institute, and the National Venture Capital Association. Mr. Millichap received a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Maryland and served as an officer in the United States Navy. Mr. Millichap has substantial business and real estate industry expertise due to various leadership roles. He has extensive knowledge of the Company, over 40 years of experience working in the real estate industry, and significant experience serving on the boards of public companies.

Robert Kennis, Senior Vice President / General Counsel

Mr. Kennis serves as Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Marcus & Millichap Company. He has over 25 years of experience in real estate law, including Bronson, Bronson and McKinnon and Consolidated Capital. Mr. Kennis is responsible for legal matters, corporate compliance and risk management. He is a graduate of the University of California and received his J.D. from the University of California at Davis and a LLM from New York University. Additionally, Mr. Kennis is a member of the California Bar.

Donald Lorenz, Chief Investment Officer

Mr. Lorenz acts as Chief Investment Officer of Marcus & Millichap Company and his role involves him in the investment activities of all of MMC’s operating companies. Mr. Lorenz first joined MMC in 1997 as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining Marcus & Millichap Company, he was CFO for Bedford Property Investors, a publicly traded REIT that owns office and industrial properties in the Western United States.

Alexander Yarmolinsky, Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Yarmolinsky has been with Marcus and Millichap for over 10 years and is responsible for overseeing the entire finance function of MMC, including accounting, capital markets, taxation and treasury. Mr. Yarmolinsky is an Investment Committee member and board member of Marcus and Millichap Company and has served as Managing Partner of the MMC Technology Ventures, LLC since 2015 with responsibilities for sourcing and evaluating attractive investment opportunities in real estate technology companies. Prior to joining Marcus and Millichap Company, Mr. Yarmolinsky worked in public accounting at Burr, Pilger and Mayer. Mr. Yarmolinsky holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration – Accounting, from the University of San Francisco and also holds a Master of Science in Taxation from Golden Gate University.

Julie Desai, Director of Human Resources

Ms. Desai serves as the Director of Human Resources for Marcus & Millichap Company and is in charge of the Human Resources Department. She also manages the Company’s reputable Venture Associate Program. Ms. Desai has over ten years of experience in Human Resources from companies within the San Francisco Bay Area. Additionally, she spent several years in recruitment, placing individuals in professional level roles across a variety of disciplines and industries. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from California State University East Bay, and holds a Professional Human Resources (PHR) Certification.

Al Pace, Pacific Urban Residential – President & CEO

Mr. Pace is co-founder and President of Pacific Urban Residential (formerly Pacific Property Company), a subsidiary of Marcus & Millichap Companies. He is a graduate of the University of San Francisco and a Certified Public Accountant (inactive). His early career began with the ‘Big 4’ accounting firm of KPMG where his client base included banks, savings & loans, state municipalities and companies within the oil & gas sector. An interest in computers and database technology led to the 1983 founding of CMR Search, among the earliest firms to develop and utilize human resource software databases.

Mr. Pace spent fourteen years with multi-family pension fund advisor SSR Realty Advisors (now BlackRock) and its predecessor configurations (Fox, Metric, etc) culminating in the position of Managing Director, National Acquisitions. Pension advisory clients included CalPERS, CalSTRS, the Alaska Permanent Fund, City and County of San Francisco, Colorado PERA and others. While at SSR Realty Advisors, he authored the strategy and model for the firm’s first Apartment Value Fund, a successful fund series that continues at BlackRock to this day.

Since 1986, Mr. Pace has been both an investment advisor and principal in the acquisition of apartment communities totaling more than 30,000 units and $6 billion dollars. Mr. Pace is a member and Director of the National Multi-Housing Council (NMHC), an Advisory Board Member of the Fisher Center Policy Advisory Board, a board member for Presidio Bank and sits on the Multi-family Blue Council of the Urban Land Institute.

Robert Freed, SummerHill Homes & SummerHill Apartment Communities – President & CEO

Mr. Freed draws from a dynamic background in real estate, corporate finance, and accounting to oversee SummerHill Homes’ critical areas of development, including land acquisition, architecture, purchasing, construction, sales and marketing, and customer service. In this capacity, he is charged with maximizing company profitability while ensuring the highest quality of development.

From 1993 to 2007, Mr. Freed held a variety of executive positions for KB Home. Most recently, he was the senior vice president of investment strategy. In this capacity, Mr. Freed was responsible for land acquisitions, joint ventures and off balance sheet financing for all of KB Home’s U.S. operations.

In addition, Mr. Freed was president and regional general manager of KB Home’s four Northern California homebuilding divisions. In this capacity, Mr. Freed was responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, including land acquisition and development, construction, purchasing, customer service, sales and marketing. He was also a member of the company's operating executive committee. He began his career with KB Home in 1993 at the company’s corporate headquarters where he served as vice president of western land development.

Prior to joining KB Home, Freed was the chief financial officer for Davidon Homes, a division president of Bedford Properties, and CFO of Blackhawk Corporation. Freed earned a B.S. Degree in economics from the University of California at Los Angeles, where he graduated summa cum laude. He is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Mr. Freed is a former certified public accountant, and was a commissioner for the Santa Clara County Housing Authority. Active in nonprofit giving, he served on the board of directors of the Bay Area Council, St. Mary’s College, and the regional board of the BIA Bay Area. He is also a member of the Policy Advisory Board for the Fisher Center for Real Estate and Urban Economics and serves on the Bridge Housing Board of Directors.

Michael Lowinger, Hanover Financial LLC – President & CEO

Mr. Lowinger is President/CEO of Hanover Financial, LLC. Hanover is a fiduciary real estate fund manager and the company forms joint ventures with local operating partners to develop and reposition apartment assets in California and the Pacific Northwest; Hanover also helps to develop and reposition single tenant NNN assets nationwide through joint ventures.

Mr. Lowinger was previously with Ares Management, a fund management firm based in Los Angeles with approximately $55 billion under management whose investors include numerous public pension funds, foundations, and sovereign funds. He became part of the Ares team when Wrightwood Capital was acquired by Ares, and he was responsible for originating and structuring preferred equity, mezzanine, and debt investments. Prior to his work at Wrightwood Capital, as outlined, Mr. Lowinger was president and a founding partner of Hanover Financial Company, a fund management firm founded in 1999, where he was responsible for directing Hanover’s investment strategy, asset and fund management, and investor relations. Hanover was acquired by Wrightwood Capital in 2008, at which time the committed institutional funds were included in the acquisition. From 1987 through 1999 Mr. Lowinger was an Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Heller Financial, a subsidiary of Fuji Bank, where he was responsible for overseeing debt and equity investments and asset management activity in the Western United States.

Mr. Lowinger is an active member of the Real Estate Principals Organization (RPO) of the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Finance from San Diego State University and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Pepperdine University. Lowinger also holds a California real estate broker’s license.

John Pollock, Meridian Property Company - CEO

John Pollock is Chief Executive Officer of Meridian, a Marcus and Millichap subsidiary. He is responsible for the vision, growth and profitability of Meridian. John directs the company’s strategy and manages operations, including development, sales, marketing, asset management and finance. Prior to his appointment as CEO, John was Chief Operating Officer of the company.

With more than 20 years of knowledge shaped by a wide range of experiences in commercial and residential real estate development, John has proven his ability to lead, develop and manage projects of any size. Prior to joining Meridian in 2006, John served as General Manager for national home builder Centex Homes where he was responsible for all land development, construction and sales in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

From 1997 to 2003, John served as Vice President of Bovis Lend Lease, a leading international project management and construction company operating in more than thirty countries. At Bovis John’s responsibilities included managing finance, project controls and risk management and he was involved in a wide range of transactions in size, scope and geography. Notable developments included: Santana Row in San Jose, CA, Four Seasons Hotel in San Francisco, CA, Lincoln Square in Bellevue, WA and the Privatization of Fort Hood Family Housing in Killeen, TX.

John is a Certified Public Accountant and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from St. Mary’s College. He is a member of Urban Land Institute and sits on the ULI Health Care and Life Science Council.
